The association „Die VW Typ 3 Liebhaber e.V.“ is the largest VW Type 3-Club in Europe. It was founded in 1987 and currently has about 200 members in Germany and Europe. The age of the members differs from 20 to 65 years. The aim of the club is to preserve the cars of Volkswagens third series, better known as the "VW 1500" or "VW 1600“.

This includes the squareback (Variant), the notchback sedan, the fastback (TL), the "big" (razor edge) Karmann Ghia Type 34 and special coachbuilt cars such as the Fiberfab Bonanza.

The type 3 was built between 1961 and 1973, the Karmann Ghia version from 1961 until 1969. Volkswagen total manufactured 2,587,989 Type 3.

Only about 0.1 percent of the built cars survived.

Contact and meetings

The association tries to inform interested members with contacts and hints to take care of our cars and helps to locate parts.

Four times a year, club members receive the magazine „Der große Volkswagen“ = " The big Volkswagen" with many reports around the VW 1500/1600. In addition, the club members keep contact using the www. The club operates this web page and a forum at www.generation-luftgekuehlt.de. Every month we count 20 new members to our internet-platform.
